SAE grading quesiton

I have this sae graded by NGC as Ms69. But it has a very noticeable three dot bag mark in the left hand field of the obverse under the hanging garment of liberty's outstreched arm. Does that disqualify it as a 69, or is that why its not a 70? I think maybe it should be a 68. Its fantastic, otherwise.

Re-submit it and request a lower grade.......you must be very, very new to coins and bullion.

You should attend a good big coin show and pick the brains of the many helpful full-time dealers that are in attendance...it would be a great learning experience....

I have one like that as well. I guess NGC feels that a coin can have a few small marks, so long as they're not too distracting, and still grade almost perfect. For me personally, if the coin has any kind of a noticeable mark or blemish I don't consider it to be more than MS-65.

you must be suffering from an exagerrated sense of self because in spite of your apparently considerable knowledge, you chose to make a smart remark rather than engage in civil debate.

I would like that. Do you think people will make remarks like yours to my face?

Sorry if I offended you....I do not debate 29.00 coins nor Identify Ten Cent foreign coins.

I figure people are smart enough to go to a library...appears I am horribly wrong.

If you went to a major coin show with all your great questions, and pocket full of Dime foreign coins asking everyone for identification, I suspect there would justifiably be a bubbling caldron of tar and downy feathers readily available....

Bullionaire,
Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or something? There is nothing wrong with Anty_Ep's question. It's a good question relating to the grading of uncirculated coins and this is after all the numismatic forum. If you can't say anything nice then why bother posting in his thread at all?

Here's what I think.....Bullionaire and other old-timers think that grading bullion is akin to pissing up a rope. They don't like it and see no use for it.

Bullion's bullion, they would say.

Why would someone grade a coin that is not rare or even scarce??

Well....the answer is: "To make money." Of course.

About right Bullionaire??

I didn't reply to this thread when I first saw it. I have never sent a bullion coin to a grading service and probably never will. I also think that "First Strike" and "Early Release" & the like is a stupid ploy by the grading services to rape the masses with an ill-thought out marketing ploy that may backfire on PCGS in the long run.

Regardless, I don't see the point of somebody pissing on the thread when Anty Ep was asking a valid question.

I didn't reply to this thread when I first saw it. I HAVE sent a few bullion coins to a grading services because I know, when the time comes to resell - people are more comfortable with coins graded by PCGS or NGC.........

But when I saw how the thread dissolved.......I just backed out........

Re: SAE grading quesiton

fyi I didnt send it in, I bought it for a good price.

I see very little in the way of answers here. the question is simple. does a three dot bag mark in the middle of the obverse of an SAE make it a 68 instead of a 69.

as for how smart I am, or looking it up in a library, I have spent too much time in my life in libraries, so much that I definitely think I am not very smart or else I would have been doing other things. maybe I take the smart advice of other users and now close this thread. if somebody else finds the grading question worthy of discussion start a new one, or fugheddaboudit
